Directions

The villa is located in Trepalade, a district of Quarto d’Altino, in Via Guglielmo Marconi, province of Venice. In ancient times this area played a very important and strategic role because here three buildings (“three palades”) were erected near the customs that marked the border between the Treviso area and the Venetian dominion of the Serenissima.Around 1682 there was a building called “la Granza” in this area, a church dedicated to S. Magno (Bishop born in Altino), the inn and a warehouse used as a deposit owned by the Benedictine monks of S. Stefano of the monastery of Altino. The history of the town is inextricably linked to the town of Altino, an ancient Paleovenetian settlement and then a Roman municipium.Noteworthy commercial port on the shores of the lagoon, Altino decayed following the destruction of the barbarians and the changing environmental conditions, which determined the swamping of the area. The population moved to the estuary founding a first embryo of the future Venice and other important settlements such as Torcello, Murano, Burano. What remained of Altino served as a “quarry” from which to draw recycled materials, remains of ancient vestiges. In the immediate vicinity is the National Archaeological Museum of Altino, in which there are numerous preserved finds, especially from the necropolis. Outside the museum there is the excavation area, open to the public, where the remains of roads and buildings can be admired.Quarto d’Altino is an archaeological, cultural and natural heritage, included in the UNESCO “Venice and its lagoon” site established in 1987.The area is also well served by supermarkets and shopping centers and excellent restaurants and trattorias.
